GenB at the 2024 Science Projects Workshop – Carbon Act Dissemination Workshop!

On the 5th and 6th of July 2024, GenB was featured and introduced as a part of the 2024 Science Projects Workshop – Carbon Act Dissemination Workshop in the Future Classroom Lab in Brussels.

The workshop was organised by the Carbon Act project , in partnership with Scientix® and the Smart Connected Classrooms project powered by Qualcomm Incorporated through its Qualcomm® Wireless Reach™ and it welcomed close to 50 teachers from 15 countries for the 2-day practical workshop.

In the workshop teachers discovered, discussed, and used teaching resources, technological tools and other pedagogical materials produced by Carbon Act and by guest STEM education partners and projects.
Specifically, participants were introduced to the GenB project, as well as the materials as a part of the GenB toolkit such as ‘What is bioeconomy?’ book for kids, BioHeroes role-playing game, Hands-on labs experiments and Career Factsheets. Participants were also introduced to the GenB Virtual library and website and briefly instructed on how to browse it.

Participants were very intrigued by the GenB materials, they found them very practical, and considered them effective tools to introduce the topic on different educational levels. The biggest attraction was the ‘What is Bioeconomy?’

Participants also had the opportunity to attend a TEDx speech by GenB Ambassador Emiliano Barbero, where he shared his experience and journey in pursuing bioeconomy, focusing on the importance of the topic and teacher’s role in raising awareness and inspiring students to pursue this path and become responsible citizens of tomorrow. The talk aimed to help teachers reflect on the importance of relatability in environmental education.
